My heritage tree was damaged in a storm. Is it still worth saving, or should I consider removal?

Storm damage doesn't automatically mean a heritage tree needs to come down. If the damage is limited to a few branches and the rest of the tree is healthy and structurally sound, it may still have many years left.

Damage to the trunk, major limbs, or roots is more concerning, especially if the tree is close to your home or another area where a failure could cause damage or injury. An arborist can inspect where the tree failed, look for cracks, decay, or other weaknesses, and determine whether the remaining structure is safe.

Because a mature heritage tree takes decades to replace, it's worth having it assessed before making the decision to remove it. If the remaining tree is sound, pruning or other corrective work may allow you to keep it safely. If the damage has left the tree unstable or unlikely to recover, removal may be the better option.
